NNRMLS Highlights New Green Fields in Upcoming Form Update

Discussing aspects of “green” real estate among a panel of experts at a recent Reno/Sparks Association of REALTORS® event, NNRMLS outlined many of the ways changes to its listing input forms will assist members in documenting and searching for energy efficient and smart features within the MLS system.

Broker/Owner Nolan Realty & InvestmentsOn Thursday, April 26th, 2018, Moderator Mike Nolan, Broker/Owner Nolan Realty & Investments, asked what NNRMLS has done to help our listing and selling agent members to identify green and smart home features in the MLS.

NNRMLS Director of Member Services and Training, Andrew Cristancho, said the most striking enhancements that will be instituted are visual aides placed directly onto the listing input form. These visual cues will include a leaf icon for energy efficient, or “green” features, and a light bulb for smart features.

Green and Smart Feature Icons

Andrew on Green Panel DiscussionSpeaking alongside a professional appraiser, a Nevada lawmaker, solar panel experts and an NV Energy representative, Andrew described when launched, the updated NNRMLS forms will have the green and smart features distributed within the appropriate categories, but not necessarily green and smart categories, in order to fit into the flow of documenting the listings.

For instance “solar” appears in three feature categories including heating/cooling, water heater, and utilities. That does not mean that solar will be under-reported; once selected by the listing agent they are also auto-populated into a sort of “green features bucket.” Anything added to this green features list will then be easily searchable for appraisers and buyers’ agents who want to find one or more of those features for their clients, Andrew continued.

Energy Star Appliances will also be located in several field categories where the appearance of an appliance would make sense; such as the kitchen and water heater categories.

“We’ve also added what would be considered a best-in-class enhancement to our input forms – we’ve added a dedicated section for several Home Energy Efficiency Verifications and/or Certifications including HERS, LEED, Energy Star Home Certification, National Green Building Standard Certification-NGBS and the Home Energy Score (HES)”, Andrew reported. “This innovative method of capturing Home Energy Verifications and Certifications takes this information out of the analog and into the digital world where it can be shared easily with consumers, thereby assisting them in making the best home-purchase decisions.” See section from listing input form below:
